The Stockholm+50 Coalition is based on peoples’s movements and civil society engagement both in Sweden and internationally. Around 50 organisations and movements are part of the coalition (see here for a list of partner organisations and groups).
We engage because we know that it’s only due to peoples’ movements (which mostly builds on voluntary engagement) and popular mobilisation that every major social and environmental achievement has been possible throughout history. The breadth of what we do and how we work is enormous, as are our different conditions for working, risk and scope for impact. We have much to learn from each other as we strengthen our cooperation across issues, continents and approaches.
Peoples’ movements helped shaped the discourse around environment and development at the original UN Stockholm conference in 1972 – see for example this extensive documentation.
